From GTalk Profile

Thank you for your interest in helping to translate GTalk Profile. To beta test this translation system, we are focusing on having a small group of people translate only the menu items. Once this test period is over, we will invite more people to help translate and will provide more material to translate. To translate GTalk Profile:

  1. Create an account. If you have a GTalk Profile account, you must still create another account for the GTalk Profile translation project. Please use the same email address for the translation project as you used for your GTalk Profile account.
  2. Click on a language below that you can help translate.
  3. Click on one of the items needing translation for that language.
  4. Click the edit tab at the top of the page.
  5. Translate that item into the language you have selected. You will see the English version of the text in a blue box above the editing window (unless you've changed your preferences). Be sure to leave the text {{Interlanguage}} and two line breaks at the top of the page. After those line breaks, begin the translated version of the text. Please review these style guidelines:
    1. Be aware of the context of the text to be translated. A literal translation may not be the most appropriate. Some languages have adopted English words for certain phrases, so use the vernacular where appropriate. Please use your judgement in translating, and use the discussion page to talk about such decisions.
    2. Proper nouns (including "GTalk Profile" and "Google™ Talk" and "Jabber®") should remain in English in the translated versions.
    3. Maintain capitalization as it appears in the original English version. For example, menu items are lowercase, and should remain lowercase in the translated versions.
    4. Maintain punctuation as it appears in the original English version. For example, menu items ending in an exclamation point should maintain that punctuation in the translated versions.
    5. Some items include variables in the format of $1, $2, etc. Please include these variables in the appropriate order in the translation.
  6. If someone has already translated the item into the selected language, make any edits you think are necessary to that item. You can use the discussion page to comment on the edits you have made or make any suggestions about other people's edits. Since English is the common language, please use English on discussion pages.
  7. If you believe that a translation is accurate and appropriate as it is, please post a comment to that effect on the discussion page.
